welcome to the fourth iteration of joanne arnott blog
i have retired all three previous eponymous blogs, as long intended, while maintaining tribute and affiliate blogs
Aboriginal Writers Collective West Coast
i've retired from my roles as poetry editor for EVENT Magazine and poetry mentor for The Writers Studio (SFU), due to health issues featuring the lungs (no big surprise for a longtime smoker).
Family research has found our genealogical affiliation as Metis is "not proven," so, I am currently identifying as a brown settler. My paternal grandmother was identified as Metis by her Metis friends and associates. My aunt Shirley and uncle Don were card-carrying Metis (MMF), while my father wondered if we might be "look-alikes."
I made a lot of mistakes in my early days attempts to research the matter, so decided to step back and trust my eldest sister to complete the research. She has done so, and now believes that our specific heritage is all settler. While three of my four great-grandfathers have names associated with both Indigenous and settler families, she believes that our specific line of descent is settler. Her DNA research echoes/supports this pov.
The image above is of my dad and his sibs, with some lovemates.
More to come.
